The Seven Basic Quality Tools are foundational elements for a successful Quality Management System. They provide the format and framework for building a successful Quality Management Program that incorporates problem identification and quantification, data and root cause analysis, and targeted improvement efforts.

2.0 Course Description

 

Roxtar’s Getting It Done with the Seven Basic Quality Tools Virtual Training focuses on the theory and application of this powerful toolset using an interactive, engaging, and (dare we say it) entertaining case study. Students learn when to use which tools and how to use them together. We also discuss and review best practices and lessons learned from industry-leading practitioners, Fortune 100 companies, government organizations, non-profit firms, and small businesses. Students will learn how to:

 

  1. Document and analyze key processes [Flow Chart (Process Map)].

  2. Record and track data for core product and service lines [Check Sheet].

  3. Separate the critical few from the trivial many [Pareto Chart].

  4. Visualize and understand the shape of and variation in your data distribution [Histogram].

  5. Identify Common Cause Variation and Special Cause Variation and predict performance [Control Chart].

  6. Explore relationships between two or more things and subgroups in your data [Scatter Diagram (with Stratification)].

  7. Discover what is driving your issues and your best practices [Cause-and-Effect Diagram].

 

3.0 Course Objectives

 

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

 

  1. Explain the applicability for each of the Seven Basic Quality Tools in real-world scenarios and how to use them.

  2. Quantify problems or defects and identify the underlying distributions.

  3. Conduct process analysis to identify and separate Common Cause Variation for Special Cause Variation.

4.0 Required Texts, Equipment, and Software

 

4.1 Books: Students will be provided with a printable Student Manual from Roxtar Consulting.

 

4.2 Equipment: Students are required to have access to a computer with internet access.

 

4.3 Software: Students are required to possess the following software packages and have them successfully installed and tested on their computers prior to the first day of class.
