Roxtar’s 120-hour Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Training and Certification program is a comprehensive offering where students learn to solve process problems and lead teams.


The material has been developed by recognized experts to provide students with an immersive
experience through concentrated content delivery and simulation exercises that provides candidates the
opportunity to quickly earn Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.


This hands-on, interactive training and certification course provides an advanced practitioner’s
comprehension of the philosophies, methodologies, and tools in the Lean Six Sigma system including
core problem solving and project management frameworks that improve performance. Statistical concepts
and process analyses techniques are explored along with best-practice facilitation and change
management methods.


Following the disciplined Lean Six Sigma DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) roadmap, this course teaches students how to collect and analyze performance data, identify inefficiencies and problems, isolate root causes, test potential solutions, and implement sustainable improvements. In addition, this course also provides techniques and skills in leading teams through the changes. This course is tailored with applicable real-world and theoretical case studies and examples to stimulate creative thinking and analogous solution generation.


At the completion of this program, certified students will be able to:


1. Attain and sustain high-impact, measurable improvements in cost, revenue (or budget), quality, and speed;
2. Understand and apply the scientific method under enterprise and local conditions;
3. Define, assess, target, and reduce waste and variation in systems and processes;
4. Teach core concepts;
5. Analyze data, information, operations, and effects from different organizations, functional areas, or processes;
6. Apply methods, concepts, and tools across existing and new programs and projects, and;
7. Prepare and deliver project reports and visual presentations.

I. STUDENT MATERIALS


A. Books

Students are required to purchase the following books and have them in their possession prior to the first day of class.


1. Lean Acres: A Tale of Strategic Innovation and Improvement in a Farm-iliar Setting by Jim Bowie
2. The Lean Six Sigma Pocket Toolbook by Michael George, David Rowlands, Mark Price, and John Maxey
3. The Six Sigma Handbook, 5th Edition by Thomas Pyzdek and Paul Keller


B. Class Slides/Presentation Materials

This is not a “paint by numbers” course. Students will not receive a copy of the course slides because deliberate note-taking drives increased retention, assimilation, and relevant application. Also, in practice, Lean Six Sigma Black Belts are rarely handed the materials or data they require.

 

The presentations, spreadsheets, videos, and the content of this material was developed and is copyright and trademark 2023 by Roxtar Consulting. It contains legally privileged proprietary information. Access, disclosure, copying, distribution, or reliance on any of it by anyone is strictly prohibited unless written authorization is obtained from Roxtar Consulting. Without written authorization, sharing of this document may be a criminal offense.


C. Equipment

Students are required to have access to a computer with internet access, Windows 10 OS (or newer), and a web camera for this virtual course (the web camera is not used during the course but is used for virtual exam proctoring).


D. Software

Students are required to possess the following software packages and have them successfully installed and tested on their computers prior to the first day of class.


1. Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer
2. Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 or newer
3. Minitab version 21 or newer
4. Webex (free version)

 

II. CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Students are required to adhere to the following policies and procedures.

  • Courtesy is expected of all students

  • Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions and activities course plan and hence reduced training for the candidate. This may lead to disqualification of the candidate.

  • Makeup work will not be offered

  • Late assignments, projects, etc. will not be accepted

  • You are expected to attend EVERY class

  • Any unexcused absence will result in failed certification and partial reimbursement of registration. Be professional at all times. Students should come to class with the assigned reading and/or homework completed.

  • Any and all class cancelations and/or reschedules must be approved by Roxtar Consulting 48 hours in advance of any scheduled sessions. Cancelation and/or reschedule requests that are not approved by Roxtar Consulting will result in the elimination of the affected training hours from the course plan and hence reduced training for the candidate. This may lead to disqualification of the candidate.

  • Makeup work will not be offered

  • Late assignments, projects, etc. will not be accepted


III. SCHEDULE

The schedule for these services will be determined by the student's needs and Roxtar’s availability. Both parties will coordinate together to coordinate a schedule with a minimum total duration (from the initiation of the training program to its completion) of 120 hours. All training must be scheduled and completed within a four-month window, i.e., the duration from the date of the first training session to the date of the final training session cannot exceed four months.

IV. CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISES

Students must completely participate in all virtual or onsite classroom activities and exercises (lectures, participation, group discussions, individual presentations, knowledge checks, readings, simulations, tollgate reviews, and homework assignments). If you do not understand something, any element, tool, theory, concept, etc. included in this training, it is your responsibility to ask questions and seek clarification.


V. QUIZZES

Students must successfully complete and “pass” all DMAIC project phase post‐quizzes. This requires a minimum median score (across five post‐quizzes) of 80%.


VI. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

Students must successfully complete all homework assignments. This includes reading assignments and written assignments. The minimum median score (across all assignments) must be 80% or higher.


VII. CERTIFICATION EXAM

Students must successfully complete and “pass” the certification exam.


A. 150 multiple choice (150 total points available)
B. 1 Essay (50 total points available)
C. Minimum score for certification: 80% (120 correct responses) or higher on the multiple-choice section AND 80% or higher on the essay.


Note: At the Roxtar Consulting instructor’s discretion, and an additional fee of $150, a candidate who fails the exam may be permitted to “re‐take” the exam once within one calendar week of the taking the initial offering of the certification exam.
 

VIII. CERTIFICATION PROJECT

Students must successfully complete:


A. An instructor‐approved real‐world, practical project no later than two (2) months following the completion of the course, or;
B. An instructor issued Roxtar Consulting simulated virtual LSS project no later than one (1) week following course completion.


In order to successfully complete the project, the candidate must:
 

A. Correctly complete all required actions, tools, and documentation for each of the five required DMAIC stages (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) – this requires the application of each of the tools prescribed by the instructor per stage.
B. Correctly complete tollgate meetings with the instructor (first) and the project Sponsor (second – if
applicable) for each of the five required DMAIC stages.
C. Deliver a holistic, summary project presentation including key actions, results, and lessons learned.

Certification Project Case Study and Project Template Restricted Use: I understand that the Roxtar Consulting Certification Project Case Study (documents and spreadsheets), the Roxtar Consulting Certification Project Template (Excel Workbook), and all other materials and information associated with my certification project may only be utilized to complete required coursework in the Roxtar Consulting Lean Six Sigma Certification Course, and these items may not be used for any professional, personal, or other purposes.


IX. TRAINING AUTHORIZATION

Prior to the development of delivery of any training materials, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt students must complete one year of experience functioning as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, starting the date of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification (as printed on the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate) and ending one calendar year after this date.


In addition to this experience, prior to the development of delivery of any training materials, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt students must also complete two (2) Lean Six Sigma projects in addition to the certification project. The completion of these three (3) projects in total is required prior to the development of delivery of any training materials by the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt student.


X. PEER VISIT


Each Lean Six Sigma Black Belt student must establish a peer relationship with another practitioner (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or above) and visit their facility for a minimum of one business day (eight (8) hours). This peer must also work in a completely different industry than the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt student.


XI. MENTORSHIP AND CONSULTING SUPPORT

One hour of certification project support mentorship is provided for each student and included in the price of the program. Additional mentorship hours may be procured as needed at the rate of $150 per hour.
