LEAN SIX SIGMA BELT DESCRIPTIONS

WHITE BELT

  • Understands structure, methods, and goals of Lean Six Sigma

  • Uses basic Lean Six Sigma vocabulary and applies core principles

  • Reports process issues and improvement opportunity ideas to Green and Black Belts

 

YELLOW BELT

  • Understands basic Lean Six Sigma concepts

  • Understands the roles of management in Lean Six Sigma deployments

  • Reports process issues and improvement opportunity ideas to Green and Black Belts

  • Works on project teams and receives Just-in-Time training

 

GREEN BELT

  • Performs diagnostic process and data analyses

  • Initiates Just-Do-Its and manages individual Lean Six Sigma projects

  • Reports process issues and improvement opportunity ideas to Black and Master Black Belts

  • Possesses Lean Six Sigma application and facilitation experience and provides JIT training

 

BLACK BELT

  • Reports to a Master Black Belt

  • Trains Green and Yellow Belts

  • Possesses advanced Lean Six Sigma experience

  • Functions as coach, mentor, teacher, and project team leader

  • Leads projects that may cross organizational boundaries

 

MASTER BLACK BELT

  • Works with leaders to identify performance gaps and select projects

  • Functions as coach, mentor, teacher, and project team leader

  • Responsible for enterprise Lean Six Sigma implementation and culture change management

  • Leads large, complex, enterprise-wide projects

  • Manages portfolios of Black Belt and Green Belt projects

  • Performs advanced sophisticated data analyses

 

CHAMPION AND SPONSOR

  • Executive leader who drives and is responsible for the Lean Six Sigma initiative

  • Inspires all levels of management to support Lean Six Sigma projects and the attendant cultural changes

  • Works with Master Black Belt to select projects

  • Provide clarity on roles and responsibilities in addition to mitigating scope creep

  • Supports change and removes barriers
