2.0 Course Description

 

This online, instructor-led training course was designed for professionals who need to complement their skills with a robust, focused management toolset. The class is framed by a fictional case study which requires the application of these tools in a systemic manner in a real-world, practical scenario. Students will learn how to:

 

  1. Explore and organize ideas using natural relationships [Affinity Diagram].

  2. Define cause-and-effect relationships between different drivers and outcomes [Interrelationship Diagram].

  3. Break products, services, or concepts down into lower levels and core elements [Tree Diagram].

  4. Assess the relationships and strength of the relationships between several groups, options, product or service characteristics, etc. [Matrix Diagram].

  5. Compare various solutions or options to each other using weighted criteria and produce a quantifiably prioritized set of results [Prioritization Matrix].

  6. Schedule and track progress for key project tasks using a visual medium that incorporates each activity along with their timing and sequence and reveals the critical path [Arrow Diagram aka Activity Network Diagram].

  7. Identify potential failure points in your plan and design countermeasures to mitigate or overcome negative impacts [Process Decision Program Chart].

3.0 Course Objectives

 

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

 

  1. Understand the benefits and application of each management planning tool.

  2. Differentiate between when to use each tool alone or as a set.

  3. Interpret and apply the outcomes from using the tool.

4.0 Required Texts, Equipment, and Software

 

4.1 Books: Students will be provided with a printable Student Manual from Roxtar Consulting.

 

4.2 Equipment: Students are required to have access to a computer with internet access.

 

4.3 Software: Students are required to possess the following software packages and have them successfully installed and tested on their computers prior to the first day of class.

 

 

5.0 Certification Requirements

 

  • None – a course completion certificate is issued at the successful completion of this class.

  • If the student successfully completes this course and Roxtar’s Seven Basic Tools of Quality Virtual training, they will be awarded the Foundations of Quality Certificate.

 

6.0 Class Policies and Procedures

 

  • Courtesy is expected of all students.

  • Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions and activities.

  • You are expected to attend EVERY class.

  • Any unexcused absence will result in failed certification.

  • Be professional at all times. Students should come to class with the assigned reading and/or homework completed.

  • Makeup work will not be offered.

  • Late assignments, projects, etc. will not be accepted.
